Few taxes, low and simple | Aznar asks for a fair and efficient tax system to improve growth
The former Prime Minister of Spain and President of FAES Foundation, José María Aznar, today called for "a tax system that's fair, efficient and improves the competitive conditions of the Spanish economy." In this regard, he spoke in favour of a "broad, deep fiscal reform, which changes many of the existing parameters and is useful for growth, prosperity, job creation and solidarity".
Aznar recalled that when ambitious tax reforms lowering taxes have been carried out in Spain "results have been extremely positive". The former Prime Minister of Spain addressed the 2013 FAES Campus during the launch and presentation of FAES's report Una reforma fiscal para el crecimiento y el empleo (in Spanish), which he described as "ambitious and very comprehensive." "Fewer and fewer voices oppose a tax reform debate or deny their need," he said.
Aznar has said he is an "advocate" of such a reform because "today, in the Spanish economy's circumstances, encouraging competitiveness and growth through tax reform is very important." He recalled that "in addition, experience has led us to do this: "When ambitious tax reforms have been carried out in Spain and which, as a result, have lowered taxes results have been extremely positive".
